Redgram MSP Procurement Rises Sharp in Andhra Pradesh Kharif-2025 Season
January 16, 2026
During the Kharif-2025 season, Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a strong growth in redgram cultivation and procurement. More than 4.08 lakh hectares have been sown, well above the normal 2.58 lakh hectares. Procurement under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system has picked up speed. As of January 12, 2026, over 1,286 MT of redgram have been procured across the state. Nandyal district tops with 608.2 MT procured, benefiting around 5,800 farmers through 45 centers. Anantapur follows closely, procuring 597.9 MT from 13,389 farmers via 31 centers managed by NAFED. Kurnool and Sri Sathya Sai districts procured 57.55 MT and 23.15 MT respectively. Other districts like Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore are still awaiting arrivals, with Nellore expecting arrivals only from March 2026. The state opened 210 procurement centers to smooth operations, backed by 23.29 lakh gunnysacks to ensure continuous buying. Agriculture Director Manazir Jeelani Samoon said, "So far, 29,627 farmers had registered for MSP procurement, reflecting significant participation from pulse growers." The tentative MSP allotment for Andhra Pradesh is 1,16,466 MT, with agencies like NAFED and NCCF conducting procurement. Harvesting is ongoing but incomplete, with North Andhra districts showing varying progress. For example, Srikakulam has only harvested 9% of its sown area, while Vizianagaram has finished harvesting 100%. Officials expect more arrivals soon and are closely monitoring schedules to ensure farmers get the best prices during the kharif season.
