American comedian Walter Masterson has called on Indians to reconsider their support for the MAGA movement. On X, Masterson said, "Have you ever celebrated Holi, Diwali, or been invited to an Indian wedding? It’s amazing. I really wish people in the Indian community stopped supporting MAGA, they wholeheartedly do not want you here." His post followed a viral video of Indians celebrating festivals in Texas. The video was shared in response to remarks by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who signed laws banning sister-city agreements with countries he labeled "foreign adversaries" like China and Iran. Abbott also barred certain groups from buying land in Texas, naming CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood. This climate has seen racist attacks on Indian-origin politicians. MAGA supporter Elijah Schaffer mocked Abraham George, the Indian-origin Texas GOP chairman, for his accent and accused the party of enabling H1B visa fraud, saying, "Indians are loyal to their race and non-Indian politicians are paid off." George, a Christian elected as Texas GOP chairman in 2024, has faced online abuse before. Defending gun rights, he stated, "God gave you life. God gave you liberty, and God gives the duty to protect both… That’s not a policy, that is Texas DNA," opposing red flag laws and magazine bans.
