Sri Lankan Navy Detains 10 Tamil Nadu Fishermen for Crossing IMBL Near Rameswaram

On the night of January 12, 2026, the Sri Lankan Navy detained 10 fishermen from Tamil Nadu. The group had left Rameswaram fishing jetty in a mechanised trawler owned by M. Thennarasu. The navy intercepted them in the middle of the sea for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). After questioning, the fishermen and their boat were held by navy personnel. The detained fishermen are: J. George Toki, 40, and J. Arockia Rubat, 42, from Pamban; J. Sudhan, 42, from Mandapam Refugee Camp; M. Kanagaraj, 25, from Tiruchi; S. Sumith, 38, from Ramanathapuram; M. Paralogaraj, 35, from Thangachimadam; S. Dinesh, 35, from Uchipuli; and K. Gopi, 27, Rajesh, and R. Prem Kumar, 35, all from Rameswaram.
