Pink Cocaine Hits US Nightclubs, Linked to Deadly Overdoses and Drug Busts
January 12, 2026
A new drug called pink cocaine, or tusi, is appearing more in US nightclubs and drug arrests. Despite its name, it is rarely actual cocaine. Instead, it's a risky mix of drugs like ketamine, ecstasy, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. These combinations vary, making overdose dangers very high, Axios reported.
Recent drug busts have happened from Los Angeles to Miami. In 2025, New York police seized pink cocaine along with many guns in a case linked to the Tren de Aragua trafficking group. In April, US Attorney General Pam Bondi said DEA agents raided an underground nightclub in Colorado Springs, arresting undocumented immigrants and capturing pink cocaine.
Miami-Dade medical examiners found several deaths from September 2020 to July 2024 tied to pink cocaine use. Lab tests show no fixed recipe for tusi. It contains various stimulants, depressants, opioids, and a pink dye to make it look attractive. This dye makes the drug “Instagrammable,” said Joseph J. Palamar, a health professor at NYU.
Users experience effects from euphoria and energy to hallucinations, anxiety, confusion, or paranoia. The drug started in Colombia as a club drug, often with 2C-B or 2C psychedelics, before spreading to the US and Europe. Palamar explained that dealers don’t need to import the drug itself; they just recreate it locally with available drugs.
Poison centres report users often believe they are taking mild stimulants, but the dangerous mix can harm the heart, brain, and breathing. Kaitlyn Brown from America’s Poison Centers warns, "There is no antidote for pink cocaine. All responders can do is support the patient while the drugs clear their system."
Since January 2024, 18 cases of pink cocaine exposure were reported across four US states. It was found in the body of former One Direction star Liam Payne after his fatal fall in Argentina in 2024. During Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial, a former assistant said that tusi was stocked for parties. Officials also note the drug is spreading to rural areas, with Louisiana issuing warnings after fatal overdoses.
Pink cocaine poses a new and deadly challenge as its unpredictable mix continues to claim lives in the US.
