Israeli Airstrikes Target Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon After Evacuation Warning
January 12, 2026
Israeli warplanes launched more than 10 airstrikes on Sunday in southern Lebanon. The strikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in the town of Kafr Hatta, north of the Litani River, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA). The NNA reported "significant damage" to buildings from the attacks.
The Israeli military said it was "striking Hezbollah infrastructure in several areas" after issuing an evacuation warning. The raids also hit Jezzine, Mahmudiyeh, Al-Dimasqiyeh, and Al-Bureij, mostly north of the Litani River.
These attacks followed Lebanon's army announcement of completing the first phase of a disarmament plan targeting Hezbollah in the south, about 30 km from the Israeli border. Israel, however, considers these efforts "far from sufficient," as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office stated that the ceasefire agreement requires Hezbollah to be fully disarmed.
The ceasefire, made in November 2024, aimed to end over a year of conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. Despite the truce, Israel continues regular strikes in Lebanon and keeps troops in five strategic southern locations.
Lebanon has pledged under US pressure to disarm Hezbollah, which suffered heavy losses during the conflict. The Lebanese army said it plans to extend its disarmament actions nationwide following the "encouraging beginning" in the south.
