VTU Vice-Chancellor Criticizes Education as 48,000 Engineers Register for Yuva Nidhi Job Scheme
January 11, 2026
S. Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), criticized the current state of engineering education during the Students Induction Program at Global Academy of Technology on January 10. "If 48,000 engineering graduates have registered for Yuva Nidhi, the State’s guarantee scheme, then professors must introspect about the kind of education we are providing. Reduce the creation of unemployed youth," he said. He called this number "truly disappointing" and questioned the effectiveness of the education system, saying, "Wake up at least now and provide education that meets industry expectations." Vidyashankar urged faculty to care for students and align VTU programs with student welfare. He added, "Understand the truth that only when students take admission, you will have work. Treat students with affection. Implement VTU’s programmes keeping students’ welfare in mind. Give greater importance to innovation." Addressing internship concerns, he declared, "We are determined to stop illegal practices under the guise of internships. Our intention is that everyone should obtain internships only through VTU."
