Union Govt Sanctions ₹14 Crore for Mandya Sports Facility Under Khelo India

The Union government has sanctioned ₹14 crore to build a new multi-purpose indoor sports facility in Mandya district under the Khelo India scheme. The decision followed a request from Mandya MP and Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy. He wrote to the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, highlighting Mandya's strong sporting potential and the urgent need for a modern stadium.
Administrative approval is granted to construct this sports hall at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya, costing ₹14 crore.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said, “The proposed stadium aims to benefit local athletes, sports teams, and the community at large by promoting physical activity, encouraging sports development, and fostering social interaction.” He added that the facility will support national and international sports events, boost tourism, and enhance the local economy.
He also highlighted Mandya’s sports legacy: “Several players from Mandya district have represented the State and the country at both national and international levels.”
Expressing thanks, Mr. Kumaraswamy said, “I sincerely thank the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports for his prompt support and for sanctioning this important project for Mandya under the Khelo India scheme.”
A press release noted, “This development shows Mr. Kumaraswamy’s dedication to grassroots development beyond his role in heavy industries and steel. His direct efforts have brought a key infrastructure project benefiting the youth and sportspersons of Mandya.”
The new facility will provide world-class training grounds, host district and state level competitions, and encourage fitness among the public.
The release concluded, “This sanction is a major step for Mandya and reflects the Centre’s commitment to support grassroots sports. Construction will start soon, aiming to nurture young talent, increase community participation, and place Mandya on Karnataka’s sporting map.”
