Hundreds gathered on Sunday, December 21, to witness the swearing-in of 76 newly elected councillors of Kozhikode Corporation. District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh administered the oath to Manakkal Sasi, the oldest councillor and a Congress member, who then administered the oath to the others. Most took a plain oath, while some pledged in the name of their favorite gods. Paroppady councillor Hareesh Pottangadi caught attention by reciting the oath in Sanskrit. The councillors signed the Corporation register and received bouquets from Corporation Secretary K.U. Bini. The councillors took the oath following the order of their divisions. In the council, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) holds 35 seats, the United Democratic Front (UDF) 28 seats, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 13 seats. Supporters, party workers, and family members cheered the new councillors. The event was held at Mohammed Abdurahiman Sahib Memorial Jubilee Hall in Tali. Dignitaries present included MP M.K. Raghavan, MLAs Ahammad Devarkovil and M.K. Muneer, BJP city district president K.P. Prakash Babu, District Congress Committee president K. Praveen Kumar, CPI(M) district secretary M. Mehaboob, former Deputy Mayor C.P. Musafar Ahamed, and CPI district secretary P. Gavas. Later, the first council meeting was held at the Kozhikode Corporation office, chaired by Manakkal Sasi. The secretary read a government notice about the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor scheduled on December 26 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively. On the same day, swearing-in ceremonies took place for Kozhikode district panchayat and other local bodies. District Collector Singh gave the oath to K.P. Mohammedans, UDF member from Chelannur, who then administered it to other members. The district panchayat council has 14 UDF members, 13 LDF, and 1 from RMP.
