Pulse Polio Drive in Mysuru Tops Target with Over 2.25 Lakh Children Immunised on Day One
December 21, 2025
The Pulse Polio immunisation drive kicked off across Mysuru district on December 21 and immediately smashed its target. On day one, 2,25,128 children under five received polio drops, beating the set goal of 2,22,084. To make this happen, the district set up more than 1,600 booths and deployed over 4,000 health workers including doctors and taluk health officers. District Health Officer Dr. Kumaraswamy P.C. confirmed these details. The campaign officially began at Vani Vilas Maternity Hospital in Jayalakshmipuram. There, Chamaraja MLA Harish Gowda personally gave polio drops to children, marking the launch. Besides the local children, many visitors and tourists also got their kids vaccinated. The immunisation will run through December 24. Health teams will visit homes to vaccinate any kids who missed out earlier. Authorities plan special efforts at busy transit points and high-risk zones. Parents are urged to ensure every child below five years receives the vaccine without fail. Steps will also be taken to find and vaccinate children from migrant families. Similar Pulse Polio campaigns are underway in Kodagu, Mandya, and Chamarajanagar districts too. Kodagu reported a total of 34,736 children vaccinated, with 31,100 in rural areas and 3,636 in urban parts — achieving 106.2% coverage. Mandya’s campaign launched at Malavalli public hospital by Deputy Commissioner Kumar, and Mandya MLA Ravikumar P. started the drive at Kalahalli’s Government Higher Primary School. Chamarajanagar’s immunisation was launched by Mona Roat, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, at the primary health centre in Venkatayyanachatra. This united effort by district administrations and the Health and Family Welfare Department underscores strong public resolve to wipe out polio in the region.
