Cyberabad Traffic Police Issue 43,676 Challans Through WhatsApp in 2025
December 17, 2025
As 2025 ends, Cyberabad traffic police have issued 43,676 challans through their 'Report Violation' WhatsApp service. About 81% of citizen complaints turned into booked cases. From January 1 to December 15, 2025, the police registered 51,389 violations in 45 categories via WhatsApp, leading to ₹2.52 crore in challans. So far, 12,868 challans are paid, with collections over ₹63.26 lakh. Officials explained that one challan may cover several violations, so violations outnumber challans. Despite the rise, citizen reports form a small part of total enforcement. The ₹2.52 crore from WhatsApp challans is only about 1.05% of ₹239.37 crore total challans issued by Cyberabad police this year. Overall, they issued 10.27 lakh spot challans and 25.93 lakh e-challans in 2025. The WhatsApp initiative has grown steadily: 35,777 challans in 2023, 43,814 in 2024, and now 43,676 this year. Most violations are in a few key areas. Wrong or unauthorised parking leads with 18,855 cases. Helmetless riding follows at 9,336 cases. Wrong-side driving has 6,527 cases. Parking that blocks the road accounts for 6,349. Dangerous driving rounds out the top five with 3,666 cases. High-risk violations rose sharply in 2025. Mobile phone use while driving tripled, from 303 cases in May to 1,110 by December 15. Videos showed two-wheelers, autos, and cars making video calls or watching videos on the move. Wrong-side driving cases jumped over four times during the year, from 1,404 in May to 6,527 in December. Triple-riding violations also surged, nearly sixfold from 235 to 1,381 between May and December. Complaints increased notably after monsoon, boosted by Cyberabad police's social media alerts. More people reported violations via WhatsApp number 94906 17346, though many reports lacked enough details to act on. Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Gajarao Bhupal, said public participation has helped boost traffic enforcement but called for clearer reports to improve action.
