Unsettled Weather: Rain, Wind, and Rough Seas to Hit Multiple Regions This Week
December 16, 2025
The country faces unsettled weather with rain, clouds, and shifting winds affecting many regions. After showers late last weekend, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts intermittent rain and clouds this week. Gusty winds and sometimes rough seas will also occur. People are advised to prepare for localized heavy showers, dust, and reduced visibility.
Rain began Saturday night over the Arabian Gulf and islands, then spread to coastal cities including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah. By Sunday, rain reached northern and eastern interior areas. The heaviest rainfall was 12.5 millimeters at Saqr Port. Showers varied widely, creating scattered wet patches.
On Monday, satellite data showed less cloud cover, mostly over seas, inland, and northern and eastern parts, reducing rain chances for the day.
The NCM forecasts light to moderate rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly over islands and northern regions. Clouds and occasional rain will continue on Wednesday, mostly over the sea and far north.
Thursday and Friday will bring the last rainfall phase, starting in the west and moving to Abu Dhabi late Thursday night and early Friday. Showers will spread to northern regions, Al Ain city, and eastern areas on Friday. Cloud cover will lessen by Friday evening and clear mostly by Saturday. Rain will be rare and limited mainly to the far north.
Winds will shift from southeasterly to northeasterly, then to northwesterly. Wind speeds will be moderate to strong near thunderclouds. Winds may raise dust and sand, reducing visibility in some places.
Sea conditions will be slight to moderate but may become rough at times, especially in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman with clouds. Boaters and coastal visitors should be cautious.
