Spain Rolls Out €60 Nationwide Public Transport Pass in January
December 15, 2025
Spain’s socialist-led government, led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, will launch a national public transport pass costing €60 per month. The pass will let people travel anywhere in Spain on middle-distance and suburban trains and national buses. Young people under 26 will pay just €30 monthly. Sánchez said the pass could reduce travel costs by up to 60% for about 2 million workers. He said, "That’s what governing is about: making the important things easier for ordinary people." The new pass starts in the second half of January. The move follows a similar €49 monthly ticket launched in Germany last year. Sánchez also defended his government amid corruption and sexual harassment allegations. He stated that his party had acted "with forcefulness and not connivance" against corruption and emphasized their commitment to feminism and fighting abuse. Despite pressure for early elections from opposition and church leaders, Sánchez rejected these calls. He said, "The time when bishops meddled in politics ended when this country’s democracy began." This transport plan aims to ease travel expenses and promote use of public transport across Spain.
