Mumbai’s Road Rumble: Radhika Gupta and Nilesh Shah Fire Back at Traffic Troubles

October 15, 2025

The traffic jams of Mumbai have caught the attention of big names! Radhika Gupta, the Managing Director and CEO of Edelweiss Asset Management Ltd, jumped into the heated debate about Mumbai’s chaotic roads. She responded sharply to Nilesh Shah from Kotak Mahindra Asset Management. Radhika said, “Nilesh Bhai, if you would like to feel better I invite you to visit Slower Parel. It takes 45 mins minimum to go a 2km distance from Parel to Lower Parel.” She pointed out how the closure of the Elphinstone bridge should have led to one-way streets and no parking, but sadly, these rules “are not being followed or enforced.” She added, “Road rules - whether illegal crossing or unwarranted parking - must be enforced strictly!” Meanwhile, Nilesh Shah highlighted the jam at the One BKC junction, saying it took “Eight minutes for Red Signal to turn Green.” But things got worse as the traffic warden was powerless. He said, “Traffic warden happily allows traffic to criss cross and block the junction. (Any way no one listened to him).” Nilesh pushed for punishments like in the Middle East: “There should be a penalty for blocking the junction... Don’t move ahead blocking the junction if you don’t have a clear passage.” Not just the leaders, the citizens also shared their own tales of Mumbai traffic torture. One user said, “Nariman point to the Eastern freeway. If you leave Nariman point post 6 pm. Literally it takes 45 mins to one hour to cover 4 kms.” Another user was more direct and passionate: “Pls take responsibility to make the change. You can. Move your offices out of BKC and Lower Parel, and move them to the suburbs. That will ensure that Lower Parel doesn’t always stay Slower Parel. Find actionable points and act upon them.” Clearly, Mumbai’s roads are screaming for strict law enforcement and creative solutions. With voices like Radhika Gupta and Nilesh Shah joining the flood, maybe real change is around the corner!
