In an eye-opening raid near Gudiyatham town in Vellore, police arrested a 45-year-old farmer named K. Gopi for holding two country-made guns on his farmland in Upparapalli village. Gopi had leased a three-acre farm from owner B. Govindasamy, who left for Hosur years ago. Acting on a tip-off, a special police team searched Gopi’s house and farmland. The find was startling: two homemade guns, explosives, nets, torchlights, and batteries. When questioned, Gopi admitted proudly, "I made the guns on my own after watching videos about it." Why did he arm himself? Gopi said he used pellets from these guns to hunt wild animals like monkeys, rabbits, and spotted deer near the forests close to the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border. He also fired shots to scare away wild boars that caused damage to his crops. Police seized all the weapons and related materials. A case was registered, and Gopi was sent to Central Prison in Vellore. The investigation is ongoing, revealing a fascinating mix of survival, farming struggles, and illegal weapons in rural Tamil Nadu.
