Shreyas Iyer Recovers Well After Scary Spleen Injury in India vs Australia ODI Clash

October 29, 2025

What a nail-biter it was when Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer hurt himself while taking a catch in the third ODI against Australia! The 30-year-old fell badly as he caught Alex Carey, leading to a serious injury to his spleen. It was so bad that Iyer was rushed to the hospital. Indian fans held their breath as early reports suggested his condition was life-threatening. But here comes the good news! Captain Suryakumar Yadav gave a big sigh of relief by telling reporters on Tuesday, "He's looking good [now]. We've been in touch for two days, he's replying." The skipper added, "If he's able to reply on the phone then he's stable." So, it seems our star batter is on the road to recovery! The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also chimed in with a statement confirming that Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen with internal bleeding. Luckily, a repeat scan showed "significant improvement," assuring everyone that Iyer's healing is going well. While eyes were firmly on Shreyas, Suryakumar also updated fans about all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Despite missing the last ODI due to a quadriceps injury, Reddy is back in action, running and batting in practice nets. The skipper said, "He's doing fine, he did a bit of running and batting in the nets yesterday. Today he wanted to take a break as it was optional practice." Now, with Shreyas steadily recovering, India is set to begin a thrilling five-match T20 International series against Australia starting in Canberra tonight. Will the Men in Blue continue their winning run? Stay tuned!
