Rasika Dugal Talks Passion for Powerful Roles and Casting Realities in Bollywood and OTT

Rasika Dugal has become a shining star by playing deep and interesting characters in movies and shows. Fans loved her roles in Mirzapur, Delhi Crime, Manto, and Lootcase. Now, her new film Lord Curzon Ki Haveli is adding more spice to her impressive journey. She says what grabbed her attention was how much this film asked actors to shine through their acting alone. Rasika explains, "What excited me about the script was that it was very performance-driven. I watched a film called Carnage a long time ago featuring four people in a room. It begins in a very slice-of-life, matter-of-fact way and then takes a dark turn. I was intrigued by that format. Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, although a very different story, reminded me of that setup. For something like this to work, the performances have to be precise, and that challenge was something I was eager to take on." She also shares that the long workshops before shooting helped everyone build their characters well. "The workshops we did really enabled the performances to shine. I discovered things I hadn’t expected and had the time, along with the director’s support, to build those ideas. Sometimes workshops can go wrong because they focus on playing out emotions rather than helping you create the character’s world." When asked about casting differences between Bollywood and OTT streaming platforms, Rasika gives a fresh perspective. Many think OTT focuses on unique talent while Bollywood uses fixed templates, but she says, "I don’t agree that Bollywood always casts by template or that streaming platforms focus purely on talent. Casting depends on perceptions and requirements, regardless of the platform. Sometimes, people choose actors who they believe will reach a wider audience, even if authenticity takes a back seat. That’s not the ideal way to cast, but it happens. It is the nature of the business. I’ve learnt to take it in stride because it’s not something within my control. I prefer to focus on my work and hope that it’s received well enough to gradually change the mindset around casting. I believe that shift has already begun, otherwise I wouldn’t have bagged the roles I have," she concludes confidently. With her keen eye for strong stories and honest acting, Rasika Dugal’s journey is truly masaledar—full of spice, struggle, and shining moments. Her choice of roles promises exciting stories for fans to enjoy.
