Harivansh Hails Nitish Kumar as Bihar’s Unmatched Leader Ahead of 2025 Polls

October 18, 2025

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, a senior Janata Dal (United) leader, gave a fiery shoutout to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday. In a lively exclusive interview with ANI, Harivansh declared, "There's no alternative to Nitish Kumar in Bihar." He did not hold back, praising Nitish’s clear vision, strong personal integrity, and exceptional transparency in politics. According to him, it’s rare to find a leader who has remained so untarnished while in power for 20 long years. "No family member has been involved (in corruption). He emerged from Jayaprakash Narayan's movement and practically implemented the ideals of Jayaprakash Narayan and Lohia in his life," said the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Harivansh highlighted how Bihar, once one of India’s poorest states during the Congress era, has seen a sharp fall in poverty thanks to Nitish’s leadership. "Bihar was one of the most underprivileged states in the country during the Congress era, but now, under the leadership of CM Kumar, the state has reduced poverty at a rapid pace," he added with pride. He also marveled at Nitish Kumar’s refusal to turn power into personal wealth. "He did not increase his family's status and wealth by invoking the names of Jayaprakash Narayan and Lohia, and did not contribute to the growth of corruption, and did not become a symbol of misgovernance. Isn't this a surprise for the entire country?" asked the JDU leader. Before Nitish’s arrival in 2005, Bihar was low on development, with crime running wild. Harivansh slammed the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for this poor record, saying, "Before Nitish Kumar took over Bihar, crime was rampant; the world's papers called Bihar a 'democratic burden'." He also took a dig at the Congress party, accusing it of exploiting Bihar’s mineral wealth and hurting the state with unfair policies like freight equalisation. This policy, he explained, unfairly held back landlocked states such as Bihar despite being mineral rich. Digging deeper into history, Harivansh blamed Congress for keeping Bihar marginalized and resource-poor, especially after Jharkhand was carved out. He said, "All the economic resources and minerals went to Jharkhand, and all industrialisation went there too. Bihar had nothing left, just potatoes, sand, and Lalu," referring to the former Chief Minister as a symbol of misrule. Looking ahead, the stage is set for the Bihar Assembly elections in 2025, with polling on November 6 and 11 and results on November 14. The NDA has locked in seat-sharing: BJP and JDU will each contest 101 seats, while smaller parties like HindustAwam Morcha, Rashtriya Lok Morcha, and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) get their spots. Interestingly, Congress MP Tariq Anwar welcomed the announcement of RJD's Tejashwi Yadav as the Mahagathbandhan’s Chief Minister candidate. So, with Nitish Kumar’s glowing praise and political battles heating up, Bihar's electoral drama in 2025 promises to be full of fireworks!
