Get ready, Bengaluru! The city’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is all set to fix those pesky potholes that have been causing mayhem on the roads. In a bold move, he said the pothole repair work is in full swing and happening all over the city. "Our engineers and workers are on the ground every day, ensuring lasting quality in every repair," Shivakumar shared on X. The promise? Smoother and safer roads that Bengaluru truly deserves. But hold your breath – the race is on against time! The Chief Minister has set a firm deadline to get all repairs done by October 31. To make this happen, there’s a hefty Rs 750 crore grant jumping into the fight against potholes. However, things aren’t smooth on the political front. BJP leaders aren’t holding back. On September 24, Karnataka BJP MLA K Gopalaiah and party workers protested right in front of Kanteerava Studios, blaming the Congress government for the city’s bad road conditions. BJP’s NL Narendra Babu didn’t mince words, calling Bengaluru a "pothole city" and asked bluntly, "Who is responsible for this?" Shivakumar swiftly pointed fingers back at the previous BJP government. "All these potholes have come under the BJP regime. They are responsible for the bad administration of the roads in Karnataka," he fired back during a press meet in Patna. Adding fuel to the fire, Shivakumar blamed the recent heavy rains for opening up more potholes nationwide. "There are potholes in all cities in the country. But only Bangalore is making news. The media is being controlled in other places. The media has been given more freedom in our state, and this problem is being widely publicised," he explained. Tragedy struck when a 22-year-old student named Tanushree died after a tipper truck crushed her while she tried to dodge a pothole near Budigere Cross on KIAL Road. This heart-wrenching accident sent shockwaves and harsh criticism toward the Congress government. On social media, the Janata Dal Secular party slammed the government saying, "Student Sacrificed for Congress' Commission!" With politics heating up and public pain rising, Bengaluru’s potholes are much more than just holes in the road — they’re now a battleground of blame, promises, and urgent action.
