The music world mourns again as Ike Turner Jr., the talented son of legendary musicians Tina Turner and Ike Turner, passed away on October 4 at the age of 67 due to kidney failure. Ike Jr. died in a Los Angeles hospital, just one day after celebrating his birthday. The sad news was confirmed by family members and shared with TMZ, bringing fresh heartbreak to a family that shaped American music. Jacqueline Bullock, Tina Turner’s niece, told TMZ that Ike Jr. had been facing serious health challenges. "His health had reportedly been declining for some time," she said, mentioning that he also suffered from severe heart problems and had a stroke in early September. Bullock described Ike Jr. as not just family, but as a brother to her, highlighting his love and talent for music from an early age. "There wasn’t an instrument he did not want to play," Bullock recalled. Though he loved drums at first, Tina Turner herself made him break down his drum kit after practice, which pushed him to explore keyboards. Ike Jr. later played an important role at Bolic Sound Studios, the famous recording studio started by his father, Ike Turner. Ike Jr.'s musical skills shone brightly. He became a respected sound engineer and musician, earning a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Traditional Blues Album for his work on his father’s album, Risin’ With the Blues. Despite facing many challenges, his passion for music never faded. Afida Turner, who was married to Ike Jr.’s brother Ronnie, shared her sorrow on Instagram, writing, "REST IN PEACE IKE JR : U WAS AMAZING BROTHER IN LAW I M GLAD I SPEAK WITH U ON A PHONE BEFORE U GONE LOVE U RIP 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻." Born in 1958 to Ike Turner Sr. and Lorraine Taylor, Ike Turner Jr. was adopted by Tina Turner during her marriage to Ike Sr. He grew up surrounded by music royalty, alongside his siblings from Tina and Ike’s complicated family history. This talented musician leaves behind a legacy tied closely to the Turners’ huge impact on music. His death follows years of family heartbreak — Tina Turner passed away in 2023, Ronnie Turner died of colon cancer in 2022, and Craig Turner, Ike Jr.’s brother, died by suicide in 2018. Ike Turner Sr., the legendary musician himself, died in 2007 due to a cocaine overdose. The Turner family’s musical story is full of highs and lows, triumphs and tragedies.
