CERC Probes Compensation Claims by Solar Developers Hit by Transmission Delays

CERC Probes Compensation Claims by Solar Developers Hit by Transmission Delays

October 6, 2025

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has jumped into the hot seat, accepting petitions from two solar energy companies — ACME Solar and AMPIN Energy — who claim they lost money because the transmission infrastructure needed to send their power to the grid got delayed. These petitions, filed separately, accuse the Power Grid Corporation of India and the Central Transmission Utility of India of holding up progress. ACME Solar, based in Gurugram, is demanding a hefty ₹21 crore in compensation. AMPIN Energy, on the other hand, has not shared the exact amount it lost but insists losses occurred. This case isn't just a small ripple in the pond – it could set a major example for the entire renewable energy sector in India, which is racing ahead to meet its clean energy goals. CERC is now grilling the transmission bodies, asking for detailed reports on the transmission system’s status, the expected dates of completion, and the root causes of the delays. Both Power Grid and the Central Transmission Utility have been given six weeks to reply, and the showdown is slated for November 27. The backdrop to all this is India’s struggle to manage its green power surge. To keep the electricity grid stable, solar power output has to be reduced at times when demand is low, simply because the electricity can’t flow smoothly without enough transmission lines. In Rajasthan, the top green power state, nearly 4 gigawatts of renewable energy have been wasted, causing estimated losses of around ₹250 crore ($28.16 million), reported the Rajasthan Solar Association. Will CERC’s decisions help clear the jam on India's green energy highway? The coming weeks will be electrifying to watch!
