Ponda woke up to water woes as Tiswadi's water supply faced a tough challenge! What was planned to be back by 6pm Friday only got fixed around 2pm Saturday — a whopping 20 hours late. The drama began early Friday morning when a mechanical joint on a huge 750mm mild steel pipeline, which carries water from the river to the 40 MLD treatment plant, cracked. Water flow dropped sharply. But hold on! Not all was lost. Tiswadi still got some water because of another plant pumping 27 MLD. However, this supply came with barely any pressure, leaving many disappointed. The twist? A sudden power outage messed things up even more. It caused a surge in the rising main pipeline, which led to a crack at a tricky cast iron detachable joint inside Opa Water Works' premises. The repair plan was to fix the pipeline using a compression collar coupler joint. Staff expected water flow to return by 6pm Friday from the 40 MLD plant. But fate had other ideas! Just half an hour before the deadline, at 5.30pm, the coupler broke down again. So, the dedicated team at Opa Water Works had to roll up their sleeves and start fixing all over again. Sunil Shet, assistant engineer at Opa Water Works, told TOI, "The staff had to work on the entire task again to fix the fault." Finally, by around 2pm Saturday, water supply to Tiswadi normalised. Residents can now breathe easy and enjoy their taps flowing smoothly once more, thanks to the hardworking team who battled pipeline cracks and power surges!
