A shocking family drama played out in Thrissur, Kerala, on Saturday midday when a son attacked his own father with a sharp machete over a land dispute! The tension started near the Shivakshetram temple around 1:30 pm, as Vishnu, the accused, barricaded himself inside a rented house and hurled threats of suicide, causing chaos in the neighborhood. The victim, Shivan, an auto driver by profession and Vishnu’s father, suffered serious injuries to his head and neck. He now lies in a coma at Thrissur Medical College, fighting for his life. According to police reports shared with NDTV, Shivan and his wife had gone to meet Vishnu to discuss the land records. To their shock, Vishnu told them, “he had thrown the papers into a well.” Tempers flared rapidly. Vishnu suddenly “slashed his father in the kitchen and again outside the house, chasing him with the knife,” the police said. Shivan’s wife and a relative escaped to raise the alarm before emergency teams arrived. The police and fire department reached the spot quickly, surrounding the house. Vishnu, armed and dangerous, locked himself upstairs and fiercely threatened to end his life if anyone came near. The standoff turned into a nail-biting scene lasting more than three hours, with police and locals desperately trying to enter by breaking windows and roof tiles. At one tense moment, Vishnu even jumped onto a neighbor’s terrace, pressing knives to his own neck to stop others from coming closer. The drama finally ended around 5:30 pm when the police, with help from local residents, convinced Vishnu to surrender peacefully. He was arrested after this intense negotiation. Neighbors revealed that Vishnu, who lived separately from his parents, often performed “strange rituals and occult practices alone in the house,” raising further concerns. Police suspect he may be struggling with mental health problems, prompting his transfer to Thrissur Medical College for further examination. This frightening incident shines a harsh light on family disputes that escalate dangerously and the urgent need to understand and support mental health issues.
