Amaal Mallik's Emotional Journey: Heartbreak, Family Pressure & Bollywood Dreams

October 5, 2025

Amaal Mallik, one of India’s most famous music directors, opened his heart to Farrhana Bhatt. His story is full of emotions—heartbreak, family struggles, and the fight to reach the top of Bollywood music. He revealed the pain of a past relationship that broke because of family issues. His ex-girlfriend’s family didn’t accept their love due to religious differences. "She was literally sick, so weak… I sat with her for hours and tried to explain that her parents weren’t agreeing," Amaal said. The heartbreak hit hard when his ex moved on. "She asked me on stage and even over the phone, ‘If you come, I won’t get married.’ I couldn’t go because then it would come on me, and I had to balance my career and respect for my mom and dad." During this emotional time, Amaal was working on the film Kabir Singh. “It felt like my life was playing out like a movie,” he shared. 2020 was a tough year for him. After the relationship ended and she got married, he faced depression and family disagreements. Yet, his passion for music pushed him forward. He talked about his early days: "I’ve been running my house ever since I was 15. My first film I worked on as a background music assistant, and since then I had to keep moving forward. I had responsibilities and couldn’t stop." Amaal’s father’s health added urgency to his dreams. "There was a point where all doors were closed for me… I just felt, before something happens to my dad, I have to be successful. I had to make it." He also pays tribute to his mentors: "My actual guru is Salim‑Suleiman. Me and Armaan have huge respect for them." Starting young in the industry gave him hard lessons. "My dad left 20 films for me. I started as a big assistant at 15, and from there, everything was learning on the go." Frustration also fueled his fire. "We used to ask our dad why we haven’t gotten invitations for big gigs. He would say, ‘I’ve done 75 films so far, and still nobody has called me.’ That gave me a certain anger, a drive to push myself further." Today, Amaal proudly says, "Right now in my generation, I’m the most well-known music director. I’ve made my place, and it’s been through dedication, hard work, and persistence. I’ve faced heartbreak, pressure, and responsibilities, but that’s what shaped me." Through this raw and honest chat, Amaal Mallik showed how personal pain and tough family demands couldn’t stop his climb to stardom in Bollywood music.
