Bengaluru Gears Up to Fix 13,000 Potholes with ₹1,100 Crore Plan Amid Corporate Pressure

Bengaluru’s roads have been a hot topic lately! Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar shared some exciting updates on the city’s pothole nightmare. So far, 13,000 potholes have been filled, but the real showstopper is his ₹1,100 crore plan to fix 550 km of vital arterial roads. That’s a big step towards smoother drives and fewer bumps! Shivakumar, also the Minister in-charge of Bengaluru development, inspected ongoing pothole repairs himself. Officials have identified 4,000 to 5,000 more potholes to be fixed, one step at a time. Last week, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave a strict 30-day deadline to make all city roads motorable — no easy feat! The Deputy CM explained, "The officials are following the government's orders and are filling the potholes. In addition, I have instructed them to prepare an action plan worth Rs 1,100 crore for the development of 550 km long arterial roads." He also talked about concrete work at junctions that will take 26 days, with traffic controls being carefully planned. What’s more, there’s a strong push for transparency and public involvement. For each pothole fixed, there is a photo, video, and GPS tracking. Citizens can even report new potholes using a special app! Shivakumar said, "We are also taking the help of the police to identify potholes. Such an initiative is only available in Karnataka." Taking a fun jab at political rivals, he said, "The potholes are in every city, I don't blame anyone... let BJP come, let's go. Let's also meet the Prime Minister and central ministers, who can give money (for Bengaluru)." This highlights the issue isn’t unique to Bengaluru but needs joint efforts. The pressure to act fast came from big voices like former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai and Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw. The drama peaked when trucking giant BlackBuck decided to move away from Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road due to bad road conditions. This shakeup pushed the government to roll up its sleeves. So, with technology, big budgets, and public power joining forces, Bengaluru eyes a pothole-free future. Will this ₹1,100 crore magic fix the city’s bumpy ride? The countdown has begun!
