In a fiery White House news conference on Monday, US President Donald Trump unveiled his new "Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict." But that was not all! Trump made a splash declaring that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir fully support this plan "100 per cent." You heard it right! They, along with several major Arab and Muslim leaders, are deeply involved in the peace talks. Trump said, "After extensive consultation with our friends and partners throughout the region, I'm formally releasing our principles for peace, which people have really liked." He pointed out that many nations contributed to this idea, thanking leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Turkiye, Indonesia, Egypt, and of course Pakistan. Calling out important personalities, Trump praised Saudi Arabia’s King as a "phenomenal person," and called UAE’s President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) and Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan (ABZ) "totally involved." Even Turkey’s President Erdogan was called a "strong man but a good man." The US president also gave a shout-out to Indonesia’s Prabowo Subianto, calling him an "amazing leader." Trump recalled, "The prime minister and the field marshal of Pakistan, they were with us right from the beginning, incredible." He highlighted a freshly released statement from Pakistan’s leaders showing their full belief in the peace pact. So, what does Trump's plan say? Gaza would become a "deradicalised terror-free zone" with no threat to neighbours. If both sides agree, the war will end instantly. Israeli troops would pull back to agreed lines to make way for hostage releases. Fighting will stop during this pause. Hostages, both alive and deceased, must be returned within 72 hours after Israel accepts the deal. In exchange, Israel will free 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 Gazans arrested after October 7, 2023. There is also a sensitive exchange of remains between Israel and Gaza to ensure dignity. After the announcement, foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkiye, Qatar, and Egypt warmly welcomed Trump’s "leadership" and "sincere efforts" to end fighting, rebuild Gaza, and prevent Palestinians from being displaced. They pledged to work positively with the US toward peace based on a two-state solution. Shehbaz Sharif was in New York for the UN General Assembly’s 80th session and met Trump and Munir at the White House days ago. Earlier this year, Munir even had a White House lunch with Trump. The Pakistan duo’s strong engagement shows Islamabad’s active role in the quest for peace. This colorful gathering of leaders and bold peace proposal could be a turning point for the volatile Gaza region. Will these diplomatic fireworks finally end the fiery conflict? Only time will tell!
