Modi's Fiery Tweet Links Asia Cup Win to Military Victory, Sparks Indo-Pak War of Words

September 30, 2025

In an electrifying tweet, PM Narendra Modi stirred the pot by connecting India's thrilling Asia Cup cricket victory to its military triumph in Operation Sindoor. Modi’s one-liner said, "Operation Sindoor on the games field. The outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers," posted on X (formerly Twitter). This zesty comparison was a sharp reply to Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s speech at the UNGA, where he proudly spoke about Islamabad’s so-called 'stellar' role in Operation Sindoor. But Modi fired back in style, blending cricket and military success to celebrate India’s dominance. The Pakistan side didn’t take this lightly. Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif accused Modi of shutting the door on dialogue, claiming it was all to save his own political image. "By destroying the culture of cricket and the spirit of the game, Modi is eliminating opportunities for peace," Asif told the media. Sources revealed to ET that talks with Pakistan are not happening anytime soon. The tension was visible even on the cricket field. When India beat Pakistan by five wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Indian team boldly refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the Asia Cricket Council chief who also leads Pakistan’s Cricket Board and serves as Pakistan’s interior minister. Adding fuel to the fire, Union Home Minister Amit Shah celebrated the win with fierce words: "A phenomenal victory. The fierce energy of our boys blew up the rivals again. Bharat is destined to win no matter which field." Health Minister JP Nadda joined the celebrations too, calling it "An incredible triumph! Our team's unstoppable spirit has once again left the competition in awe." With cricket and politics colliding spectacularly, Modi’s tweet and the Asia Cup win have made headlines beyond sports. The rivalry between the two nations blazes as fiery as ever, both on the pitch and off it.
