Hold on to your hats, folks! The battle over who will be the next US Ambassador to India just got hotter. Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton has openly doubted the pick of Sergio Gor, a 38-year-old close aide to President Donald Trump. In a sharp statement to ANI, Bolton said, “I don't think he's qualified to be US Ambassador to India.” Why such a strong claim? Bolton worries about Gor’s lack of experience in tricky world affairs. Bolton didn’t stop there. He flagged how Gor seems shaky on big international issues like the messy Russian oil sanctions. Those rules were meant to hit Russia’s wallet to stop the Ukraine war, without hurting oil prices in Europe or America. Yet, India and others used clever loopholes – like a price cap that let them buy cheap and sell at market rates. Bolton said many experts think this is not breaking the rules but warned, “the main objective should be to avoid fueling the Russian war effort.” Who is Sergio Gor? He's a young Trump insider who just got promoted from presidential personnel director to ambassador-designate and special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs. If the Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirms him on Thursday, he’d be the youngest US envoy to India ever. Gor talks about managing “strategic convergence amid policy divergence,” counting on the strong ties between Trump and India’s Prime Minister Modi. But the fireworks didn’t end with Gor. Bolton also fired back at another Trump adviser, Peter Navarro, who made some spicy anti-India remarks. Navarro accused India of making money off discounted Russian oil and claimed Indian tariffs hurt American jobs. More controversially, he brought up caste remarks, saying “Brahmins are profiteering” from this trade. Bolton slammed Navarro harshly: “Look, Peter doesn't know anything about world affairs. Really, he has a hard time distinguishing who America's friends are, who America's friends should be, and how you treat friends.” He added that Navarro’s words don’t reflect official US policy but show the Trump team’s wild way of handling friends. With the Senate hearing around the corner, all eyes are on how Gor will defend himself and how US-India relations will shape up as trade talks heat up. Will Bolton’s doubts slow down the process? Or will the youthful envoy prove his mettle? Stay tuned for this masaledar diplomatic drama!
