Goa Govt Plans to Bury Power Lines Underground Across State Before 2027 Elections

September 8, 2025

Get ready for a cleaner and smarter power system in Goa! The government is working hard, with about 50% of the 11kV power lines and 20% of the low tension (LT) domestic lines already underground. And guess what? They want to finish the job before the big 2027 assembly elections. Power Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar told reporters at a Ponda event that all 11kV power lines across the state and LT lines in cities will be shifted underground. This is not just a fancy change. It’s a smart plan to stop big power outages. Right now, each electric feeder has 18-20 transformers. If even one transformer faces a snag, the whole feeder’s supply goes off, leaving many in the dark. But with underground cables, only the faulty transformer will shut down. "This will keep the remaining transformers electrified," Dhavalikar explained. This means fewer blackouts and more reliable electricity for you! However, the rural LT lines will stay above ground for now. The government’s focus is to complete 100% underground cabling of urban LT lines before the elections. So, the countdown is on! By 2027, Goa could see a power network digging deep underground to keep the lights shining bright everywhere in its cities.
