Will Trump Block US IT Companies From Outsourcing Work to India? Laura Loomer Sparks Debate

September 6, 2025

An American right-wing activist named Laura Loomer recently stirred up a storm with her bold social media claim. On 5 September 2025, she posted that US President Donald Trump is thinking of stopping US companies from sending their IT work to big Indian companies. She shouted loudly, “President Trump is now considering blocking US IT companies from outsourcing their work to Indian companies.” But the masaledar part? Loomer said Americans won’t need to ‘press 2’ to speak English anymore if this happens. With flair, she demanded, “Make Call Centres American Again!” The next day, on 6 September, she doubled down with excitement about ending what she calls "the days of pressing 2 for English to speak with someone who doesn’t speak English." "Very nice," she added. Meanwhile, across the political scene, conservative commentator Jack Poso suggested that the US must charge tariffs on foreign remote workers who provide services to America. And guess who liked that idea? Trump’s trade advisor, Peter Navarro. He reportedly gave a ‘thumbs up’ to the call, saying, “Countries must pay for the privilege of providing services remotely to the US, the same way as goods. Apply across industries, levelled as necessary per country.” But hold on! There’s no official word yet from President Trump himself on whether he’ll block outsourcing or slap tariffs on foreign workers. So, the idea is still floating in the political air. Let's look at the language angle: Both the US and India use English as an official language. According to research from Pew, nearly 84% of Indians older than 5 years speak English well. That includes 28% who only speak English at home and 56% who speak another language at home but say their English is very good. In the US, about 78% of people over 5 speak English only at home. Another 14% speak other languages but say they speak English very well, according to the Census Bureau’s 2023 American Community Survey. So, the claim that Indians can’t speak English might need another look. But no matter what happens next, this debate around outsourcing and language is heating up the trade war between the US and India. Stay tuned for more twists in this spicy saga!
