Aadhaar Authentication Hits Record 221 Crore Transactions in August 2025 with Face Authentication Surging

September 5, 2025

Big news from UIDAI! Aadhaar authentication transactions have jumped by a whopping 10.3% compared to August last year, hitting a dazzling 221 crore in August 2025. That's not just bigger than before, but a clear sign that India's digital wave is rushing ahead. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the custodian of Aadhaar, also revealed that face authentication is turning heads. This method, where your face helps confirm your identity, saw a massive jump from 6.04 crore transactions in August 2024 to 18.6 crore in August 2025. Can you believe nearly three times more people are using their faces to authenticate themselves? UIDAI noted, "Aadhaar number holders executed over 221 crore authentication transactions in August 2025, more than the previous month this year, as well as the corresponding month in the previous fiscal. The August 2025 authentication transactions are over 10.3 per cent more than such transactions recorded in August 2024." This shows how people trust Aadhaar’s power to verify identities smoothly. The real kicker came on September 1, when UIDAI recorded the highest-ever face authentication in a single day — over 1.5 crore times! This broke the previous record set just a month ago on August 1, with 1.28 crore face authentications completed. Imagine that many faces getting verified every day! What’s more exciting is the wide use of this technology. Over 150 groups, including government ministries, financial bodies, oil marketing companies, and telecom giants, are jumping on board the face authentication train to make services smoother and faster. UIDAI shared, "More than 150 entities, both in government ministries and departments, financial institutions, oil marketing companies, and telecom service providers, among others, are using face authentication for smooth delivery of benefits and services."This swell in Aadhaar usage also ripples through other services. The number of e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) transactions, a vital part of verifying customer identities digitally, hit a towering 38.53 crore in August. This growth paints a glowing picture of how Aadhaar is not just an ID but a key driver of India’s digital economy.
