Odisha Floods Submerge Over 100 Villages as Heavy Rains Lash Till August 29

August 26, 2025

Odisha is facing a watery challenge as nonstop rains, thanks to a low pressure area, have drowned more than 100 villages across Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts. The scene is dramatic! Many blocks in Balasore are underwater, while Dhamnagar and Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak have water swirling inside homes. Even parts of Jajpur have a watery blanket over them. The Water Resource department reported that the Subarnarekha and Baitarani rivers are threatening to overflow at three key points. Some river gauging sites showed water levels dangerously close to breaching the limit. To battle the flood fury, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and Fire Service teams are on the ground, pulling off rescue operations and aiding stranded people. As if this wasn’t enough, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has spotted a fresh low pressure area brewing over the Bay of Bengal. IMD warns that heavy rains will continue to soak most parts of Odisha till August 29. Southern districts are on yellow alert. The forecast predicts heavy rainstorms, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph in places like Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Koraput. The people of Odisha are advised to stay alert and safe as the skies promise more watery surprises in the coming days.
