Get ready for a tech fiesta! India is speeding up its semiconductor dream with a massive Rs 62,900 crore already allocated out of Rs 65,000 crore set aside just for chip production incentives. That means almost all money is spoken for, and only a couple of tiny projects might still squeeze in. Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan explained that the full India Semiconductor Mission has Rs 76,000 crore—Rs 65,000 crore is for making chips, Rs 10,000 crore to upgrade the Mohali Semiconductor Laboratory, and another Rs 1,000 crore tucked away for design-linked incentives. Krisnan shared, "Out of this Rs 65,000 crore, I think we have committed close to Rs 62,900 crore or so already. We have limited funding, which we have available; we might be able to just accommodate two or three small projects." Mark your calendars! From September 2 to 4, the dazzling Semicon India 2025 event will light up Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. This isn't just any event; delegates from 33 countries and more than 50 top executives from global semiconductor giants like IBM, Infineon, Micron, and TATA Electronics will gather. And guess who will open this grand meet? None other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself! The government has already given a thumbs-up to 10 key projects focusing on cutting-edge technology such as high-volume fabrication units, 3D heterogeneous packaging, and compound semiconductors, including Silicon Carbide (SiC). They’re also backing outsourced semiconductor assembly and test units, boosting India's tech muscle. India’s chip revolution is on the fast track, with big names and big money gearing up to make it happen. Will this spark the next big wave in global semiconductor production? The buzz is already electric!
