Reliance Infrastructure Wins NHPC Solar + Battery Storage Project, Becomes India’s Top Clean Energy Giant

August 19, 2025

Get ready for a clean energy explosion! Reliance Infrastructure has just grabbed a dazzling Letter of Award from the government-owned NHPC to develop a massive 390 MW solar power plant paired with a whopping 780 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This electrifying deal pushes Reliance Group's renewable power capacity over the magic 3 GW mark and battery storage beyond 3.5 GWh! Talk about power packed! The solar project is set to bring 700 MWp of solar DC capacity into play, which, along with the massive battery system, will make Reliance India’s biggest integrated Solar + BESS player. The winning tariff for this project is an eye-popping ₹3.13 per unit (kWh), making it one of the lowest-cost solar setups in the country’s energy race. Reliance Power, the group's renewable energy flagship, already has a shining record with around 2.5 GWp of solar and an equal 2.5 GWh battery capacity under its belt. Now, this fresh project from NHPC pushes their overall clean energy portfolio far ahead in the race, proving their giant leap in India’s energy transition. This project comes under a giant tender floated by NHPC: a 1,200 MW solar and 600 MW / 2,400 MWh BESS challenge that attracted 15 fierce competitors! Fourteen qualified for the electronic reverse auction, which was oversubscribed nearly four times. Clearly, the energy world is buzzing to build smart, dispatchable renewable power. Reliance Infrastructure isn’t new to giant projects. Besides power, it builds roads, metro rail, and defence projects through special companies called SPVs. It has already crafted landmarks like the Mumbai Metro under a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer model and several key road projects under Build, Operate and Transfer setups. With this NHPC award, Reliance Infrastructure cements its role as a clean energy powerhouse ready to energize India’s future with solar light and battery might. The sun is shining bright, and Reliance is leading the charge!
