Kolkata woke up to a chilling mystery this Friday as an unidentified man, likely in his late twenties, was found dead in the underground tunnel connecting Esplanade and Park Street Metro stations. The body was discovered early morning, sending shockwaves through the city. According to Kolkata Metro officials, the man’s body was spotted around 1:30 am beside the tracks by staff working on the up-line. Panic set in as the Railway Protection Force and Kolkata Police rushed to the scene. The body was carefully removed by 7 am and taken to a government medical college and hospital. A senior Kolkata Police officer revealed, "Body of a man, aged between 25 to 30 years, was found near the tracks of Kolkata Metro’s between Park Street and Esplanade. We have registered an unnatural death case at the New Market police station. Efforts are on to establish the identity of the man." Delving into the cause of death, the officer added, "A burn injury was found over the man’s right wrist. The on-duty Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) said that the victim was electrocuted." Adding to the mystery, Kolkata Metro officials confessed that they are scratching their heads over how this man entered the high-security tunnel. "We are trying to find out how the man got into the tunnel as there are security personnel deployed on the platforms and none noticed him. CCTV footage is being scanned," said one official. Notably, the last train from Park Street leaves at 11:08 pm and from Esplanade at 11:10 pm, but no one seems to have spotted the man.
