Cyberabad Police Arrest Parents Forcing Children To Beg Dressed As Gandhi
February 4, 2026
Cyberabad Police have taken strong action against child begging. For the first time, parents who forced their children to beg were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. According to Cyberabad Women and Child Safety Wing DCP Srujana Karnam, children were being painted and dressed as Mahatma Gandhi to beg at traffic junctions and busy roads. This cruel practice was repeatedly used by parents or guardians to get money from the public. Recently, five minor boys were rescued begging at Cyber Towers junction. A case was filed at Madhapur police station against their parents for sending children to beg multiple times. The police called this act "cruelty and exploitation," violating children's rights and dignity. The DCP said, "Forcing or inducing children to beg exposes them to serious physical, emotional and psychological risks, especially in high-traffic areas where their safety is severely compromised." Cyberabad Police warned that harsh legal action will be taken against anyone forcing children to beg. The rescued children will receive protection, counseling, and rehabilitation support with help from child welfare groups. The public is urged not to encourage child begging and report such cases immediately to the nearest police station or call the Child Helpline at 1098.
