Alphabet Plans Huge Bengaluru Expansion, Could Double India Staff
February 4, 2026
Google-parent Alphabet is planning to significantly grow its presence in India. According to Bloomberg News on Tuesday, the company is eyeing millions of square feet of new office space in Bengaluru, the tech hub of India. Alphabet has leased one office tower and secured options to buy two others in Alembic City, a development in the Whitefield area. In total, this space covers 2.4 million square feet, sources familiar with the deal said. The first tower is expected to open to employees in the coming months. Construction on the other two towers should finish next year. If Alphabet uses all the space, the complex could house about 20,000 more staff. This would more than double Alphabet's current workforce in India, which is around 14,000 employees. Globally, Alphabet has roughly 190,000 workers. Alphabet did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on this expansion plan.
