At least 14 migrants died after a speedboat carrying them collided with a Greek coastguard vessel late Tuesday near the island of Chios. Greek authorities said the speedboat was making dangerous moves and was being chased by the coastguard at the time of the crash in the Chios Strait near Vrontades village. Rescue teams saved 24 people, including seven children, a pregnant woman, and two coastguard officers. Some survivors are seriously injured. Others remain missing. The coastguard has not yet explained exactly how the collision happened. A large search and rescue mission continued Tuesday night. It included four coastguard boats, a private boat with civilian divers, and a helicopter. The Greek state broadcaster ERT first reported four deaths but later confirmed 14 after more bodies were found at 23:00 local time (21:00 GMT).
