The US military has shot down an Iranian drone near the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. The drone, a Shahed-139, was flying toward the carrier with 'unclear intent.' An F-35C fighter jet launched from the Abraham Lincoln shot down the drone to protect the ship and its crew, said Capt Tim Hawkins, a Navy spokesperson for US Central Command. No US personnel were hurt, and no equipment was damaged. This happened as diplomats worked to arrange nuclear talks between the US and Iran. President Donald Trump warned that 'bad things' might happen if a deal is not reached while US warships move toward Iran. Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, said he had asked the foreign minister to 'pursue fair and equitable negotiations' with the US. This was a clear sign Tehran wants talks with Washington. It also suggested support from Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had earlier rejected talks. The Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group is part of a US military buildup responding to Iran’s recent crackdown on protests, the deadliest unrest since 1979. Trump has demanded Iran make nuclear concessions and sent a naval flotilla near Iran’s coast. He said last week Iran was 'seriously talking.' Tehran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, confirmed talks were underway. Central Command also reported another tense event on Tuesday in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards harassed the US-flagged, US-crewed merchant ship M/V Stena Imperative. 'Two IRGC boats and an Iranian Mohajer drone approached M/V Stena Imperative at high speeds and threatened to board and seize the tanker,' said Capt Hawkins.
