Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) saw a sharp drop of more than one lakh domestic passengers in December 2025 compared to November. The fall happened because IndiGo cancelled many flights due to flight crew shortages. KIA handled 3,133,697 passengers in December 2025, down from 3,279,765 in November— a decrease of 1,46,068 domestic passengers, according to Airports Authority of India (AAI). Compared to December 2024, passenger numbers dropped by 0.8%. Aircraft movements also fell. KIA had 19,202 domestic flights in December 2025, 839 fewer than November’s 20,041. That is a 3.5% drop versus December 2024’s 19,890 movements. IndiGo's crisis led to over 100 flight cancellations on several days in Bengaluru and more than 150 cancellations on some days. December 6 saw the peak with 175 cancelled flights. November 2025 recorded the highest monthly domestic passenger count at the airport with 3,279,765 travelers. Separately, Menzies Aviation has secured a 15-year licence to provide ground handling services at KIA starting April 1, 2026. The firm will handle passenger, ramp, and baggage services at Terminals 1 and 2 once regulatory approvals are completed. Menzies will launch a local recruitment drive to hire around 1,000 staff in three years, adding to its existing 1,700-strong cargo team. The company plans to invest over $9.2 million to modernise its ground support equipment, including electric vehicles, supporting its sustainability goals.
