Idukki on High Alert After Bomb Threat Emails Target Key Dams and District Offices
February 3, 2026
The Idukki district was placed on high alert on Tuesday after bomb threat emails targeted several key places. The threats focused on the Mullaperiyar dam, Idukki dam, the District Court at Muttom in Thodupuzha, and the District Collectorate. Police received the emails Tuesday morning and immediately launched searches. A five-member bomb squad team led by district charge officer P. Manoj Kumar took part in the operations, assisted by dog squad members. Magi and Dolly, special dogs trained to detect explosives, helped in the search. The Mullaperiyar and Idukki dams are considered highly sensitive and critical, so their security was increased. District Police Chief K.M. Sabu Mathew said, “The email is suspected to have originated in Tamil Nadu and contained several false narratives. The police remain on high alert as investigations and precautionary searches continue.” No suspicious items were found at any of the four locations. This is not the first such case. Earlier on January 8, a similar email threat disrupted court proceedings at the Idukki District Court. That threat was sent to the District Judge’s official email and claimed to be from a 'Tamil Liberation' group. “The district has been receiving several such email threats in recent times,” said Mr. Mathew. Police continue to monitor the situation closely to keep the district safe.
