The Chief Superintendent of Kalaburagi Central Prison, R. Anita, has been transferred to the Prison Staff Training Institute in Mysuru. The transfer is on special duty while an inquiry is underway. Karnataka’s Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Alok Kumar, ordered the transfer. K. Suresh from Bengaluru has been given additional charge of the Superintendent post in Kalaburagi until further notice. Kalaburagi Central Prison recently faced trouble due to inmate clashes, bribery allegations against staff, and reports of expensive liquor and cigarettes being provided to prisoners. Due to these issues, Alok Kumar asked Additional Director General of Police, Prisons, P.V. Anand Reddy, to conduct a detailed investigation. Alok Kumar also visited the prison in early January to assess the situation.
