February 3, 2026
In Manjeswaram, Kasaragod, Kerala, a property dispute led to a shocking double death on Monday evening. Umar Farooq allegedly killed his 18-year-old daughter, Mariyam Jumaila, after stabbing a close relative, Sheikh Abba (55). Sheikh Abba later died in a private hospital in Mangaluru from critical stab injuries. Police said the conflict arose between Umar Farooq and his wife’s sister’s husband, Sheikh Abba. "Umar Farooq first stabbed Sheikh Abba, leaving him grievously injured," the police explained. He then attacked Mariyam Jumaila with a machete when she tried to stop him. Neighbours heard Mariyam's screams and found her in a pool of blood. She was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. Relatives claim Umar Farooq was a habitual drug user with frequent domestic quarrels. He had recently returned from abroad and faced multiple criminal cases. Earlier divorce talks between the couple were halted by relatives. Umar Farooq is now in police custody. Mariyam’s body is kept at Manjeswaram government hospital pending post-mortem.
