A rare winter cold snap in Florida has left many green iguanas cold-stunned and falling from trees. These cold-blooded reptiles lose muscle control when temperatures drop into the 30s, causing them to become immobilized and fall down. Influencer @stackz shared a viral video showing a ‘blanket’ of motionless iguanas, joking about trying to sleep under them. He said, “We love everything with a heartbeat,” and confirmed he did not harm the animals. When green iguanas get cold-stunned, they cannot move and appear frozen until temperatures rise again. In South Florida, residents are collecting these reptiles and bringing them to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) facilities. The FWC has issued a temporary order allowing the public to capture and transport cold-stunned iguanas without a permit during this freeze. Normally, rules restrict possession of this invasive species, but the change helps manage the situation during the cold spell.
