The Economic Survey of India 2025-26 praises Tamil Nadu for its strong growth and development. Tamil Nadu recorded an 11.19% real growth in 2024-25, making it the fastest-growing State economy in India. It is also the country's second-largest state economy. The state’s secondary sector grew 13.43%, driven by manufacturing with an impressive 14.74% growth, beating the national average of 4.5%. Tamil Nadu leads in four-year average manufacturing growth at 9.38%. Exports from Tamil Nadu nearly doubled from $26.15 billion in 2020-21 to $52.07 billion in 2024-25. The state is noted as investment-ready, emphasizing strong manufacturing employment and industrial cluster development. It excels in urban development, skill building, higher education, agriculture, and services. Tamil Nadu’s industrial diversity spans textiles, leather, automobiles, electronics, and cement, with 85% of India's cement industry located here. It also received ₹100 crore financial aid to build a Medical Devices Park. The state employs 15% of India’s manufacturing workforce, the highest in the country, surpassing Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Business Reforms Action Plan 2024 enhanced ease of doing business with single-window clearances, digital approvals, and land reforms. Environmental actions include solar parks and pollution control measures by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. Tamil Nadu is a key player in India’s green hydrogen future with the V.O. Chidambaranar Port named a green hydrogen hub. Coastal climate projects and the Climate Resilient Villages initiative showcase the state’s commitment to sustainability. Chennai is highlighted as one of the world's largest urban agglomerations with excellent civic discipline. Tamil Nadu tops in civic behaviour and has liberalised building laws. In education, seventeen Tamil Nadu institutions rank in the NIRF 2025 Top 100, the highest among states. Initiatives like Thozhi Hostels and the Skill Voucher Scheme support women and disadvantaged students. The survey confirms Tamil Nadu’s balanced growth, combining economic progress, social equity, and environmental care. Its leadership in manufacturing, exports, education, and clean energy places the state as a major contributor to India’s Vision 2047.
