IMD Forecasts Warmer February with Dense Fog in Andhra Pradesh
February 2, 2026
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts daytime temperatures above normal and minimum temperatures normal to above normal in Andhra Pradesh this February. According to IMD's monthly outlook released on February 1, the chance of warmer temperatures in the state ranges from 33.5% to 75%. In some parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Rayalaseema, the probability of above-normal temperatures is 65% or higher. However, IMD Director S. Stella from Amaravati explains that "above-normal maximum temperatures do not mean harsher temperatures in February." She says the early part of February may have a 1-2°C rise in daytime temperatures, which is still considered normal. "Only when the deviation is above 1.9 degree Celsius that we consider the temperature to be rising," Ms. Stella added. In the last two weeks of February, temperatures may rise by 2-3°C in Rayalaseema and some other pockets. The forecast also expects minimum temperatures to be normal to above normal, with Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh seeing normal minimums. North Coastal Andhra Pradesh has a 33.5% to 45% chance of above-normal minimum temperatures. Until February 8, minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady. Meanwhile, dense fog has persisted in parts of the state. On February 2, the IMD issued a dense fog alert for districts including NTR, Eluru, Krishna, Bapatla, Palnadu, and Alluri Sitaramaraju between 6:20 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. Daily dense fog alerts have been issued since January 28.
