Kerala CM Warns Against Glorifying Superstition at Science Congress

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on January 31, 2026, warned against spreading superstition disguised as ancient science. Speaking at the 38th Kerala Science Congress in Kochi, he said such myths threaten scientific thinking. "Society must actively resist efforts to revive blind beliefs and unscientific practices," he stated. Industries Minister P. Rajeeve gave the introductory speech. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan highlighted Kerala’s crucial role in India's development. He said, "Kerala is home to several institutions of national importance, including research centres in science and technology, life sciences, biotechnology, climate studies, and public health." He praised Kerala’s high literacy and social inclusion as a model for human development. During the event, Chief Minister Vijayan presented the 2024 Kerala Science Award to Dr. Tessy Thomas. He also handed out various government awards recognizing young scientists, best scientists, and achievements in science literature and media.
