A teenager injured in a deadly fire at a Swiss ski resort bar has died in hospital. The 18-year-old Swiss national passed away in Zurich on January 31, raising the death toll to 41, said Wallis canton's public prosecutor Beatrice Pilloud. The fire occurred on New Year's Eve at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, a popular spot among young guests where the drinking age is 16. Along with 41 deaths, 116 people were injured, many with severe burns. Eight victims were under 16 years old. As of Monday, Switzerland's Federal Office for Civil Protection reported 44 patients being treated abroad—in France (18), Italy (12), Germany (8), and Belgium (6). Additionally, 37 were still in Swiss hospitals. Initial investigation suggests the blaze started when sparklers on champagne bottles ignited soundproof foam on the bar’s basement ceiling. Authorities revealed the bar had not passed safety inspections for five years. Owners Jacques and Jessica Moretti face charges of manslaughter by negligence, bodily harm by negligence, and arson by negligence. The municipality’s head of public safety and a former fire safety inspector are also under criminal investigation. Jessica Moretti is under a travel ban, must surrender her passport, and report daily to police, while Jacques Moretti is in custody for 90 days. Jessica expressed sorrow over the "unthinkable tragedy."
