A tiger reportedly crossed the Godavari river from Papikonda National Park (PNP) and attacked three cattle near Torredu village in Rajamahendravaram rural area, East Godavari district, early Sunday morning, February 1. The tiger was last seen on January 29 moving into PNP through Buttayagudem mandal in Eluru district. Rajahmundry Chief Conservator of Forest B.N.N. Murthy told The Hindu, "The tiger has attacked the cattle near Torredu. The Forest department personnel have been deployed to monitor the movements of the tiger." Farmers in Torredu confirmed the attack and recorded the tiger's pug marks. Torredu is an agrarian village on the banks of the Godavari river, where cattle are often kept on the river islands. The forest department is keeping a close watch to prevent further attacks.
