IIT Dharwad hosted a one-week programme called "Initiation into Mathematics" from January 26 to 31. Sixty-two undergraduate students from 40 colleges in Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra took part. The event was conducted in partnership with the Mathematics Training and Talent Search (MTTS) Trust. The MTTS Trust has spent 33 years improving math teaching methods. The aim was to inspire students to think critically and logically, not just memorise facts. Many students came from government colleges, ensuring wide participation across the region. This is one of the first major efforts to raise math standards locally. The program ended with a valedictory ceremony where students shared their experiences. IIT-Dharwad director Venkappayya R. Desai spoke about Indian mathematicians and the philosophy behind teaching and learning math.
