The 78th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Sarvodaya Day or Martyrs’ Day, was observed on January 30 at Gandhi Bhavan on the Manasagangotri campus of the University of Mysore. The event was jointly organized by the University’s Centre for Gandhian Studies, Vidyavardhaka First Grade College, and the NSS Unit of the University. Dr. Amar Kumar from the U.S. was the chief guest. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of several dignitaries. Vice-Chancellor N.K. Lokanath spoke on the occasion, stating, "Many of the conflicts facing the world today can be addressed if people seriously reflect on Gandhiji’s principles and adopt these in their lives." He added, "Gandhiji respected all religions and envisioned people of all faiths living together in peace and harmony, guided by human values." Other officials present included M.K. Savitha, registrar, Nagaraj, registrar (evaluation), and several faculty members of the university. The ceremony reinforced Gandhi’s enduring message of peace and unity.
